We will be offering basic fire fighting training as required by our members. This will take place over 2 days where you will do theory and practice. We would like to start with this training as soon as possible due to the reason that the fire season is approaching. Please the table below for the prices:

Fuel reduction:

We can’t deny the fact that there will always be a chance of a veld fire, but we can potentially succeed in reducing the intensity of the fire when it does happen. Fuel reduction is only one way to do so.  The term fuel refers to living and dead vegetation that could potentially burn. You as a landowner must reduce fuel on your property to the best of your ability as this will protect your property and those around you.

If a fuel reduction burn is done correctly it could provide ecological benefits. Fuel reduction can be done by chipping the fuel and then disposing it at a dumpsite or by doing a prescribed burn when the weather conditions are suitable to do so.

Fire fighting equipment:

It is of great importance that you as the landowner have equipped yourself with fire fighting equipment in event of a fire on your property. Equipment such as:

  • Bakkie Sakkies
  • Water trailers
  • Rake Hoes
  • Beaters
  • Knapsacks
  • Drip Torch
  • Handheld two- way Radio

It is also very important to have trained firefighters among your employees as well as someone who can be the Crew leader( team leader). If you wish to learn more about our suggested minimum fire fighting equipment and personnel, go to our website and download our self checklist https://winelandsfpa.co.za/admin/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/WFPA-member-compliance-checklist.pdf

Firebreaks:

It is that time of the year again, time to get those firebreaks in place for the upcoming fire season that starts in November. We urge you to ensure that your firebreaks are maintained and in place, this is for your own benefit. It is important to keep the firebreak prescription in mind when you do maintain and create firebreaks on your property. Those prescriptions can also be found in the rule document on our website.

We advise you to sign firebreak agreements with your neighbors where they are willing to do so, the WFPA will record these documents this will assist you, your neighbors, and insurers in the event of a fire. If you have any questions regarding this matter please feel free to contact us.
